MISSION
Sanitary Pad Manufacturing Unit
“Empowering Women with Dignity, Health & Sustainable Livelihoods.”
1. Project Overview
Menstrual hygiene remains a significant public health and social challenge, particularly among women and adolescent girls from economically disadvantaged communities. Limited awareness, affordability issues, social stigma, and inadequate access to quality menstrual hygiene products often result in poor health outcomes, school absenteeism, reduced workplace participation, and diminished confidence.
Mission Sakhi is a flagship initiative of JAP TAP SEWA Healthcare Foundation that aims to address these challenges through the establishment of a Sanitary Pad Manufacturing Unit. The project is designed not only to manufacture affordable, high-quality sanitary pads but also to create sustainable employment opportunities for women while promoting menstrual health awareness and breaking long-standing taboos surrounding menstruation.
The initiative will train and employ women, particularly from underprivileged and marginalized communities, enabling them to acquire technical skills, achieve financial independence, and actively participate in the workforce. The sanitary pads produced through the unit will be distributed at affordable prices through schools, colleges, healthcare institutions, community organizations, self-help groups, and outreach programmes, ensuring that menstrual hygiene products become accessible to those who need them the most.
Mission Sakhi represents a holistic model of women’s empowerment by combining healthcare, livelihood generation, community education, and social entrepreneurship. The project strives to improve menstrual health, enhance dignity, promote gender equality, and create lasting socio-economic impact within communities.
2. Why This Project? (Need Assessment)
Menstruation is a natural biological process, yet millions of women and girls continue to face challenges in managing it safely and with dignity. In many communities, menstrual hygiene products remain unaffordable or inaccessible, while cultural myths and social stigma discourage open conversations about menstrual health. These barriers often force women and girls to rely on unsafe alternatives, increasing the risk of infections and other health complications.
The consequences extend beyond health. Many adolescent girls miss school during their menstrual cycles due to inadequate access to sanitary products and poor menstrual hygiene facilities. Women in low-income households frequently prioritize other family expenses over their own menstrual health, compromising their well-being and self-confidence.
At the same time, employment opportunities for women in underserved communities are often limited. By establishing a sanitary pad manufacturing unit, Mission Sakhi addresses two critical challenges simultaneously—improving access to affordable menstrual hygiene products and creating meaningful livelihood opportunities for women. Through awareness, education, skill development, and local production, the initiative promotes dignity, economic independence, and healthier communities.
3. Vision
