Centre of Excellence for Orthopaedic Rehabilitation, Mobility Care & Mobile Outreach
“Restoring Mobility. Rebuilding Independence. Empowering Lives.”
1. Project Overview
Mobility is fundamental to independence, dignity, and quality of life. However, millions of individuals continue to live with physical disabilities, musculoskeletal disorders, orthopaedic injuries, age-related mobility challenges, and post-surgical rehabilitation needs. Many patients are unable to access timely rehabilitation services due to financial constraints, limited availability of specialized facilities, and lack of awareness regarding long-term rehabilitation. As a result, preventable disabilities often become permanent limitations affecting education, employment, and overall well-being.
Mission Gatishakti is a flagship initiative of JAP TAP SEWA Healthcare Foundation dedicated to establishing a Centre of Excellence for Orthopaedic Rehabilitation, Mobility Care & Mobile Outreach. The Centre will provide comprehensive rehabilitation services that restore movement, reduce disability, improve functional independence, and enhance the quality of life for individuals of all age groups.
A unique feature of Mission Gatishakti is its Mobile Orthopaedic Outreach Unit, a specially equipped vehicle that will travel to villages, schools, old-age homes, rehabilitation centres, industrial areas, and underserved communities. The mobile unit will conduct mobility assessments, physiotherapy sessions, orthopaedic consultations, assistive device measurements, follow-up care, rehabilitation counselling, and awareness programmes, ensuring that rehabilitation services reach people who cannot easily travel to specialized centres.
The Centre will integrate orthopaedic consultations, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, gait training, pain management, sports injury rehabilitation, post-operative rehabilitation, geriatric mobility care, paediatric rehabilitation, assistive device fitting, and community outreach into a single comprehensive rehabilitation ecosystem.
Mission Gatishakti envisions a future where every individual, regardless of age or physical ability, has the opportunity to regain mobility, independence, confidence, and dignity through accessible, affordable, and compassionate rehabilitation services.
2. Why This Project? (Need Assessment)
Musculoskeletal disorders, arthritis, osteoporosis, fractures, spinal conditions, sports injuries, neurological disorders, congenital disabilities, and age-related mobility limitations are increasing rapidly. Road traffic accidents and occupational injuries further contribute to the growing demand for rehabilitation services. Unfortunately, rehabilitation is often overlooked despite being essential for complete recovery and long-term independence.
Many patients discontinue therapy because rehabilitation centres are located far from their homes, transportation is difficult, or treatment costs become unaffordable. Senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and residents of rural communities are particularly affected by the lack of accessible rehabilitation facilities.
There is also limited awareness regarding the correct use of orthopaedic supports such as braces, cervical collars, lumbar belts, knee supports, walkers, wheelchairs, and rehabilitation equipment. Improper usage often delays recovery and reduces effectiveness.
Mission Gatishakti addresses these challenges by combining advanced rehabilitation services with a Mobile Outreach Unit that brings expert care directly into communities. Through early intervention, physiotherapy, assistive devices, patient education, and continuous follow-up, the project seeks to reduce disability, restore independence, and improve long-term quality of life.
3. Vision
