Centre of Excellence for Comprehensive Eye Care

“Restoring Vision. Inspiring Lives.”

1. Project Overview

Vision is one of the most precious gifts of life, enabling individuals to learn, work, care for their families, and participate fully in society. Yet millions of people continue to live with avoidable visual impairment and blindness due to limited awareness, delayed diagnosis, financial constraints, and inadequate access to quality eye care services. Many eye conditions can be prevented, treated, or effectively managed if detected early, but underserved communities often lack access to specialized ophthalmic care.

Mission Drishti is a flagship initiative of JAP TAP SEWA Healthcare Foundation dedicated to establishing a Centre of Excellence for Comprehensive Eye Care that provides affordable, accessible, and high-quality ophthalmic services to individuals of all age groups. The Centre will combine advanced diagnostic technology, experienced ophthalmologists, modern surgical facilities, and community outreach programmes to deliver preventive, curative, and rehabilitative eye care under one roof.

The Centre will offer comprehensive eye examinations, cataract surgeries, glaucoma management, diabetic retinopathy screening, retina services, paediatric ophthalmology, refractive care, optical dispensing, low vision rehabilitation, and community-based vision screening programmes. Through regular outreach camps, school vision initiatives, senior citizen eye care programmes, and awareness campaigns, Mission Drishti aims to reduce avoidable blindness while promoting lifelong eye health.

Mission Drishti is envisioned as a trusted institution where quality eye care is accessible to every individual, ensuring that financial limitations never become a barrier to preserving or restoring sight.

2. Why This Project? (Need Assessment)

Visual impairment continues to be a major public health concern, affecting individuals across all age groups. Cataracts, refractive errors, glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, childhood vision disorders, and age-related eye conditions remain among the leading causes of preventable blindness and reduced vision. Unfortunately, many people seek treatment only after significant vision loss has already occurred.

Children with undiagnosed vision problems often struggle academically, while working adults may experience reduced productivity and limited employment opportunities. Senior citizens are particularly vulnerable to cataracts, glaucoma, and retinal diseases, which significantly affect independence and quality of life. Individuals living with diabetes also require regular retinal screening to prevent avoidable blindness.

Financial limitations, lack of awareness, and limited access to specialized eye care services often delay diagnosis and treatment, particularly in rural and underserved communities.

Mission Drishti addresses these challenges by providing affordable comprehensive eye care, early diagnosis, advanced treatment, community screening, preventive education, and rehabilitation services. Through an integrated approach, the project seeks to preserve vision, restore independence, and improve quality of life for individuals and families.
