Serving Food Where It Matters Most

At JAP TAP SEWA FOUNDATION, we believe that food is one of the most fundamental forms of human care. A meal can mean comfort to a family waiting outside a government hospital, dignity to someone living in an underserved community and immediate relief to people whose lives have been disrupted by a natural disaster.

Our Langar Sewa initiative is therefore designed to take food support directly to people and places where the need is greatest.

Over the past three years, our work has extended beyond routine community feeding to include regular food service near government hospitals, support to underserved and slum communities, and emergency food distribution during floods, cloudbursts, landslides and other climatic emergencies.

A Meal When It Is Needed Most

Around government hospitals, patients and their attendants can spend long hours — and sometimes several days — seeking medical treatment. For families already facing financial pressure, arranging regular meals can become another burden.

Our Langar Sewa seeks to ease that burden by making food available in locations where people naturally gather for essential services.

We also extend food support to economically vulnerable communities, where a wholesome meal can make a meaningful difference to families facing everyday hardship.

For us, Langar is not simply about serving food. It is about serving people with dignity.

Responding to Climate Emergencies

Our Langar Sewa becomes particularly critical during natural disasters.

Over the last three years, JAP TAP SEWA FOUNDATION has undertaken documented food-relief interventions across Himachal Pradesh and Punjab, responding to situations involving flash floods, cloudbursts, landslides, heavy rainfall, flooding and severely disrupted road connectivity.

Between July 2023 and September 2025, our documented relief records cover 40 interventions and 32,600 packed food units distributed to affected and stranded populations.

In Himachal Pradesh, our relief operations have covered affected areas including Kullu, Manali, Mandi, Shimla, Chamba, Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti. In Punjab, our food-relief efforts have reached flood-affected areas including Fazilka, Firozpur, Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Amritsar and Jalandhar, among others.

The scale of individual interventions has varied according to the situation — from several hundred food packets during localised emergencies to 2,500 packed food units during a large-scale flooding response.

When Roads Close, Service Must Continue

During cloudbursts, floods and landslides, the challenge is often not simply a shortage of food. Damaged roads, washed-away bridges and isolated villages can make it difficult for essential supplies to reach people.

Our approach is therefore built around responsive community relief — identifying affected areas and mobilising packed food support where normal access has been disrupted.

From stranded travellers in Himachal Pradesh to flood-affected families in Punjab, our teams have sought to ensure that disruption does not become hunger.

A Strong Avenue for CSR Participation

Langar Sewa provides corporates and institutions with a direct and meaningful opportunity to support communities through regular feeding programmes as well as emergency food relief.

CSR partnerships can strengthen our ability to maintain regular hospital-area food services, reach underserved communities and respond quickly when climatic emergencies occur.

At JAP TAP SEWA FOUNDATION, we believe that meaningful service is ultimately about being present when people need support most.

32,600 documented packed food units are more than a number. Each represents a meal prepared, a person reached and a moment of hardship made a little easier.

Because when circumstances disrupt everything else, no one should have to face hunger alone.
